Business As Usual: FBLA Takes 18 Medals at District Competition

The results are in from the 2012 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) District Competition and we have fantastic news to report!

Missouri Military Academy earned first place in two categories at the February 17 event.  Seniors Tommy Abraham ’12, Anthony Ingracia ’12, and Jared Roberts ’12 gave a presentation about in the Global Business category.  Ingracia also scored a gold medal for an individual presentation in the Hospitality Management category.  Both presentations scored a trip to the FBLA state competition April 22-24.

FBLA Coordinator MAJ Peggy Reynard says the cadets have a limited amount time for research before they compete.  She says the presentations are actually put together during the event.

“The group is given a case in a preparation room.  They have 20 minutes to determine how they will handle the case,” Reynard said.  “Then they go into another room and present their solutions to the case in front of three judges.  They give seven-minute presentations and answer judges’ questions afterward.  None of the groups know what their case will involve before the competition.”

In addition to a gold medal, Roberts brought home the silver medal in the economics category, and senior Sergei Quinn ’12 earned silver for his project in the sports management category. Those presentations will also be featured at the state competition.

Reynard says in total MMA cadets brought home two plaques and 18 medals.

Other MMA winners include Rodrigo Delgadillo’13, Jose Perez ’12, and Eric Strauss ’12, who also earned silver medals for their presentation in Management Decision Making.  Six additional cadets earned bronze medals for their presentations.
