Environmental Science Class Begins Using New Weather Station
Thanks to a generous donation by an alumnus and current parent, one of Missouri Military Academy's science classes will be able to monitor local weather readings a lot more closely. Jose Garcia Batarse '78 made the donation so that cadets in MAJ Mike Pemberton's environmental science class may take precise measurements of the weather at the school.
Batarse is the father of MMA junior Jose Garcia '13.
Crews recently finished mounting the station on the roof of Barnard Hall, and has already allowed cadets in Pemberton's class to document wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, temperature, and other conditions.
Cadets in the class had the opportunity to go up and see the device in action.

"We're very lucky to have received these gifts in such a short amount of time," Pemberton said. "I'm very excited to help the cadets learn more about the weather, especially with such sophisticated equipment. Not only will it assist my meteorology lessons, it will also give us very accurate readings."
This is not the first donation welcomed by the science department this school year. Last month, alumnus Ben Jones '50 donated funds for the purchase of new microscopes for MMA's biology classes.
