Cadets Give Back through Community Service Day

One way MMA cadets are able to contribute to their community is by assisting local organizations complete tasks.  All of the cadets made their way out into Mexico Tuesday, October 4, and some traveled to Columbia to do their part.  Whether it was clearing brush from Mexico parks or spending time with veterans at the Mexico Veterans Home, cadets were ready to serve bright and early on a cool fall morning.

A total of 40 cadets made a trip to Columbia to help out at the Central Missouri Food Bank preparing food to be distributed to the less fortunate in mid-Missouri.  A number of other students served local organizations in Mexico.  Nine cadets pulled weeds, smoothed over an old flower bed and raked leaves at the Audrain County Historical Society.  Five cadets joined CPT Santina Ippolito at the King’s Daughters Home to clear the yard of fallen autumn foliage.

More than 20 cadets spent the day at the Mexico Veterans Home, helping inside and out.  Some built a birdhouse and painted it with a couple of veterans, and others listened to stories while chatting with veterans while working on a puzzle.

This was the third Community Service Day at MMA, and is part of the Academy’s community service requirement.
